Overview: The Large Ballast Tank (LBT) serves as a surge volume for off gas from a critical refrigeration cycle. The temperature of the outdoor tank is closely linked to the system pressure, and variations in temperature can significantly impact experimental results.
HVAC Calculations: XCEED conducted detailed HVAC calculations for the outdoor tank to assess the necessary insulation and heat tracing requirements. The client’s goal was to maintain the tank skin temperature within the 20-degree envelope specified by the client.
Installation:
- Heat Tracing: XCEED successfully installed the required heat tracing system, ensuring proper temperature maintenance.
- Redundant Circuit: A redundant circuit was implemented to enhance reliability and ensure continuous operation.
- Thermal Insulation: Following the installation of the heat tracing, XCEED oversaw the insulation of the tank to minimize thermal loss and maintain the desired temperature range.

Outcome: These enhancements ensure the LBT operates efficiently within the specified temperature parameters, contributing to the overall stability and reliability of the refrigeration cycle. By addressing thermal management, XCEED has helped mitigate potential disruptions to experimental results stemming from temperature fluctuations.
